The English as a Second Language Program (ESL) offers course work specific to
the language needs of students for whom English is a second (or subsequent) language.
This course is SDCC 4.
SDCC 4 is a required course for all undergraduates who have not satisfied the
UC Entry Level Writing requirement and who have been designated as needing the
course based on their UC Analytical Placement Writing Examination. A combination
of instructor recommendation, Entry Level Writing Exit Exam result, and a possible
portfolio review places students into SDCC 4 for another quarter, into SDCC 1,
or into a college writing sequence. Like SDCC 1, SDCC 4 is taught through a cooperative
agreement with the San Diego Community College District. Under Academic Senate
regulations, SDCC 4 cannot be counted toward graduation requirements; however,
the course units do count as workload credit toward the minimum progress requirement
and eligibility for financial assistance. For further information about the
UC Entry Level Writing Requirement or the UC Analytical Writing Placement Exam,
please visit the Basic Writing office, or
call (858) 534-6177.
