The English as a Second Language Program (ESL) offers course work specific to
the language needs of students for whom English is a second (or subsequent) language.
This course is SDCC 4.
SDCC 4 is a required course for all undergraduates who have not satisfied the
UC Entry-Level Writing Requirement and who have been designated as needing the
course based on their UC Analytical Placement Writing Examination. A combination
of instructor recommendation, Entry-Level Writing Exit Exam result, and a possible
portfolio review places students into SDCC 4 for another quarter, into SDCC 1,
or into a college writing sequence. Like SDCC 1, SDCC 4 is taught through a cooperative
agreement with the San Diego Community College District. Under Academic Senate
regulations, SDCC 4 cannot be counted toward graduation requirements; however,
the course units do count as workload credit toward the minimum progress requirement
and eligibility for financial assistance.
